The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Jack and Jill Revisit Past Cheating Relationship New Y&R Ro
The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Jack (Peter Bergman) and Jill (Jess Walton) will unexpectedly revive their ancient personal relationship. A segment of Y&R’s audience is too young to recall that these characters once had an affair, while Jill was married to Jack’s father, John (Jerry Douglas). Some fans might protest this renewed lust arrangement. But it’s age-appropriate, as Walton and Bergman are both in their sixties.
Eons ago, meaning a number of years back in real and soap time, Jack and Jill commingled their personal assets. That record makes Jack’s recent experience with Philly appear to be a form of life’s payback. It also places his current protest against Billy (Jason Thompson) in a deeper context. Yes, Jack’s anger toward his brother is a partial recognition of his slimy self seen in history’s mirror.
The Jill character social climbed her way to the top, which Jack recently reminded her of during a conversation at Genoa City’s Athletic Club. Brenda Dickson first embodied Jill during Y&R’s early days. She was followed by Deborah Adair for awhile, until Dickson returned in the 1980’s. However, most modern fans have only known Walton as the Minx of Wisconsin.
Genoa City’s historical record confirms that Katherine Chancellor’s (Jeanne Cooper) initial nail dresser (aka manicurist) and eventual paid companion later bedded Phillip Chancellor II (John Considine and Donnelly Rhodes). Of course Phillip was Katherine’s husband at the time and Jill conceived his child (Phillip III, played by Thom Bierdz). Classically written arcs that deserve referencing for sure.
Jill is currently married to Colin (Tristan Rogers), who’s often out of town due to that actor’s recurring contract status and his roles on ABC’s General Hospital (Robert Scorpio) and Amazon Prime’s The Bay (Commissioner Lex Martin). Jilin is a great pair, as both character’s personalities match and these two great actors work well together. So while Mr. Atkinson is away, or possibly even when he’s in town in the future (which would make things more interesting), the two former lovers will fall into each other’s arms.
Will that be the start of a long-term relationship? Unlikely, but retro romance will remind hardcore viewers of Jack and Jill’s complex past.
No super couple moniker can be applied to this duo by taking the first letter of either’s name and mashing it against the remaining letters of the other’s first-half designation. Doing so simply restates what was. And yes, that’s what the loop back to Jill and Jack will become in 2017 as well.
