Russell Crowe and Now-Ex-Wife Danielle Spencer Finalize Their Divorce After Five Years

He’s offically back on the market! Five years after first separating from now-ex-wife Danielle Spencer, Russell Crowe has finalized his divorce from the Austrailian actress. “In other news… yesterday, April 9, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight time (Aus)… I officially became divorced. Thank you linesman. Thank you ball boys,” the 54-year-old announced on Twitter.

The two tied the knot back in April 2003 after meeting on the set of the 1990 film The Crossing, in which they starred opposite each other as lovers. Their relationship lasted nine years before they called it quits in October 2012, but their marriage legally spanned 15 years. They share two children together, 14-year-old Charles Spencer Crowe and 11-year-old Tennyson Spencer Crowe.

The Academy Award winner previously revealed he would be celebrating his divorce by auctioning off over 200 personal items from his marriage in an auction titled “The Art of Divorce.” The event took place on Saturday, April 7 — which was both his 54th birthday and his and Danielle’s wedding anniversary. “The sale included an important collection of Australian art, decorative arts, watches, and jewelry, together with music and sporting memorabilia, and costumes, props, musical instruments, and items from Russell’s extensive and diverse career in film and music,” Sotheby Australia’s website detailed after the auction. “Consisting of 226 items, the sale realised over $3.7 million with 144.5% sold by value.”

Despite the lengthy time it took for their divorce to be legalized, Russell and Danielle reportedly parted ways amicably. The 48-year-old told The Daily Telegraph in 2015 that she hoped to remain friends with Russell, explaining that her own parents’ divorce served as a model for her. “It’s been a great example for me, that is exactly what I would aspire to achieving myself,” she said. “If my mother’s away, my father and step-dad will get together and watch the footie (Australian football) or something — they’re really great friends.” Russell also echoed her remarks, saying to The Sunday Times that same year, “Once I commit to something, I stick with it, so you never know… I’ve loved Danielle Spencer since 1989; that’s never going to change.”
