Rocky The Musical Has Opened on Broadway
I think we can file this one under things we never imagine we would see in our lifetimes. Rocky the Musical has opened on Broadway. Yes, the same Rocky that was about a guy coming up from the streets and trying to become a famous boxer. Same movie that was written Sylvester Stallone. Well, guess what? He co-wrote the musical, too. This is one of those things that just sounds so surreal, you feel like you may need to see it for yourself to be sure it exists.
Not only does Rocky the Musical exist, but it actually had a really strong debut. Well, it makes sense to me. How often can you see a musical about a man trying to be a professional boxer? Not too often, I would think. And with Sly involved behind the scenes, how off can it be? The rumor is that the final boxing match in this musical (oddest thing to type, ever) sends people out of the theater all pumped up and in a great mood. The songs are supposed to be fun and exciting. It is said that the performances capture the raw energy and passion of the original movie. Heck, Entertainment Weekly called it a “technical knockout”. Man, they used a boxing pun, so it HAS to be good.
I can openly admit, I like theater. When done right, it is quite an experience. Having said that, I think I can safely say that Rocky the Musical has just been added to my bucket list. Like, who wouldn’t want to see it?
Dolph Lundgren. That’s who.
