Off-street art: home with garden mural hits market

A coastal property with its own slice of Top End street art has hit the market in Darwin.

The home at 8 Coolibah St, Nightcliff, has a Territory-inspired mural painted across a garden wall by local artist Jesse Bell of Proper Creative.

Selling agent Darren Hunt, of Real Estate Central, said he had not heard of another property with artwork like this being sold in Darwin.

The current homeowners commissioned Mr Bell to create the piece by blending what they loved about the Territory.

The artist spent three days working on the mural with the final product featuring a green ant and magpie geese.

“It is absolutely rare and a highly individualised piece of art created from both the owners engaging with the artist,” Mr Hunt said.

“The owners say it’s perfect for the home.”

Mr Hunt said the artwork had been well received by potential buyers.

“I don’t let them know about it before they view the property,” he said.

“I let them have that surprise of seeing it when they walk into the backyard.

“It’s absolutely a talking point and the kids love it too.”

The 897 sqm property also features a two-storey family home with four bedrooms, open plan living and full length verandas.

The mural is a focal point in the backyard, which has a pergola, established gardens and a big swimming pool.

Mr Hunt said the home was on a tightly-held street popular with families and a short walk to the Nightcliff jetty.

The property is on the market for $1.58 million.
